The aim of the Heartsaver AED course is to provide you with the basic techniques of CPR, teach you how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and train in relief of choking for adults, children and infants. The course is accredited by the Irish Heart Foundation.

Heartsaver AED – CPR Training

Part One: You will receive a key code so you can access and complete this course online at a convenient time and at a pace that suits you, you can click in and out of it as often as you please. The online course contains videos, animation and Simulation scenarios. Once you have completed the online course you can print your own certificate.

Part Two: Submit your certificate to us and complete the face to face component where you will practice your skills and complete your skills test. This will be done in a safe environment following best practice guidelines in relation to COVID-19. Having completed the theory online means the contact time required is substantially reduced. Date and location for Part Two to be confirmed and is run subject to minimum numbers.

You will then receive the full Irish Heart Foundation (IHF)/ American Heart Association certificate completion card upon successful completion of the course. This is valid for the next two years and you will have access to the course and learning materials for the two year period.

The aim of the Heartsaver AED course is to equip the participant with the relevant knowledge and skills to deliver a range of life saving techniques in an emergency situation. Participants will learn basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the relief of choking for adults, children and infants.

The Course is suitable for: For anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet regulatory or other requirements. Ideal for Healthcare Assistants, administrative staff in health centres or anyone wanting to learn CPR and the use of an Defibrillator.

Course Content:

  • Adult CPR
  • Mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-barrier/mask ventilation
  • Foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious)
  • Automated external defibrillation
  • Special resuscitation situations
  • Child CPR, AED use and choking
  • Infant CPR and choking
