Celebrate Nurses – International Nurses Week

International Nurses week is an annual celebration to mark the contribution of nurses everywhere. It runs from May 6 to May 12 each year, International Nurses Day falls on 12th May, a significant date as this is the Birthday of Florence Nightingale who had a pivotal role in the development of modern nursing.

The day was first celebrated by the International Council of Nurses in 1965, each year has a theme is chosen, for 2013 it is “Closing the Gap: Millennium Development Goals: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1” this slogan is intended to be a countdown to 2015. Nurses are the largest health care profession in the world and are key to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

In recognition of International Nurses week and all the hard work nurses do ‘Nurse Jobs Ireland’ are hosting an exciting event in Dublin “Celebrate Nurses our Everyday Hero”.

The afternoon will include a reception, some brilliant and entertaining speakers: Francis Jones will be talking about dressing & feeling like a hero, and Grainne Lynch will be taking a light hearted and informative look at managing stress, there’ll be prizes too, and all the local hero’s will leave feeling appreciated and pampered.
